Director Ilya Averbukh called WADA a cancer of sports
Director and producer of ice shows Ilya Averbukh, in an interview with the YouTube channel “Katok”, called for the destruction of the World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA).
Averbukh called WADA a cancer of sports. “We need to carry out some kind of operation, like a boil, to cut out this WADA, in general this whole system, which is already so rotten on all sides,” he said. According to the director, new anti-doping rules need to be created from scratch.
On April 26, Averbukh explained the motivation of skaters who take illegal drugs. According to the specialist, doping helps cope with psychological stress and improves endurance.
In January 2024, Russian figure skater Kamila Valieva was disqualified for four years for violating anti-doping rules. Traces of the banned drug trimetazidine were found in the skater’s sample from December 2021.
