Russian fencers refused to participate in the qualifications for the 2024 Olympics

Russian fencers refused to participate in the qualifications for the 2024 Olympic Games in Paris. This is reported by France Press with reference to the European Fencing Confederation (EFC).

The EFC said that the only opportunity for Russians to qualify for the Olympics was to go to the tournament in Differdange (Luxembourg), but domestic athletes decided not to take part in it. “The reason for their absence is unknown, there was no official letter of explanation,” said EFC head Giorgio Scarso.

Earlier it became known that Russian climbers refused to participate in the Olympics in a neutral status. Before this, gymnasts, archers and rowers abandoned the Games.

In December 2023, the International Olympic Committee allowed Russians and Belarusians to participate in the Games in Paris. They will be able to take part in the tournament as individual neutral athletes. At the same time, athletes who support a special operation in Ukraine, as well as those who have connections with the armed forces or security agencies of Russia and Belarus, will not be allowed to participate in the competition. In addition, representatives of team sports will miss the tournament.
