Stanley Cup winner appreciates Ovechkin’s chances to compete in the Olympics under 44

Russian goalkeeper, 2007 Stanley Cup winner Ilya Bryzgalov assessed the chances of Washington Capitals striker Alexander Ovechkin to compete in the Olympic Games. His words are quoted by “Championship.com”.

“With Ovechkin’s health, he will play at 44 as [Яромир] Jagr. Look what he does in the NHL, ”Bryzgalov said. He expressed confidence that the Beijing Olympics will not be the last chance for Ovechkin.

The NHL’s decision not to let players into the 2022 Games was previously commented on by the Olympic ice hockey champion and former defender of the Russian national team Darius Kasparaitis. He admitted that he is upset that the Olympics will be left without NHL hockey players. He drew attention to the fact that such a decision was a blow to older athletes, who probably lost the chance to compete in the Olympic Games.

On December 22, it became known about the refusal of the National Hockey League (NHL) to release hockey players to the Games. The decision came amid an increase in the number of coronavirus cases in the league.

The 2022 Olympic Games will take place from 4 to 20 February. The Russian national team will play against the Czech Republic, Switzerland and Denmark in the group stage.
