After being heavily criticized due to the ordeal made to Coventry City players, Brazilian Antony spoke out on X (old Twitter) this Tuesday. The attacker explained what motivated him to take action.
“Coventry proved why they reached the semi-final. We sought this place in the final for our fans and we achieved it. The way our fans were treated by their player [do Coventry] It was not friendly and I, in the heat of the moment, reacted to the provocations in a natural defense of my club!”, he wrote.

Antony’s ordeal came after Hojlund converted the penalty that secured Manchester United’s qualification over Coventry City, an English Second Division team, for the big FA Cup final.
In the game in question, the Manchester club even took a 3-0 lead, but conceded a draw, which took the match to extra time. Coventry City turned the score around in the last minutes, but the goal was disallowed due to an irregularity in the move.
Antony’s action had negative repercussions in the English press. The Brazilian has already faced criticism since arriving at Manchester United, but due to his performance on the field.
