Coach Makushin said that Batashova lost her bid due to low results
The head coach of the Russian modern pentathlon team, Andrei Makushin, explained the deprivation of Ulyana Batashova’s salary after receiving neutral status. His words are quoted by RIA Novosti.
Makushin said that the athlete lost her spot in the Russian national team because she did not show good results. He emphasized that Batashova lives in Azerbaijan, where her husband is one of the coaches of the country’s triathlon team. “It was decided to transfer the position to Batashova to a young promising junior,” the coach added.
Earlier on April 23, Batashova announced that she had decided to participate in the 2022 Olympic Games in Paris, so she submitted papers for neutral status. She said that after this the Russian Modern Pentathlon Federation fired her from the team.
On April 20, Batashova became seventh at the World Cup in modern pentathlon in Ankara. She is a six-time champion of Russia in the individual competition, in the team and in the relay. The athlete also has two silver medals at the World Championships in the team and relay.
