This Tuesday, coach Erik Ten Hag responded to the criticism that Manchester United suffered after qualifying on penalties for the FA Cup final, last Sunday, at Wembley. The Red Devils started by winning the semi-final against Coventry City 3-0, but suffered a draw and advanced only on penalties.
“I can’t understand this (media) reaction,” Ten Hag said at a press conference.
The team led by the Dutch coach was heavily questioned for letting a second division team equalize the score after having a three-goal lead. Despite this, he praised United’s classification and highlighted that the most important thing is the result.
“In top football, what matters are the results. We reached the final and we deserved it. Not just in this game, but also in the others. We were in control until the last 20 minutes and we were also unlucky.”
Finally, Erik Ten Hag praised the club’s arrival in two consecutive FA Cup finals.
“We were clearly very lucky with the penalties, but we reached the final and that is a great achievement. Twice in two years is magnificent. For me, as a coach, four cup finals in four years,” he concluded.
In 2023, United also reached the decision, but lost to Manchester City 2-1. This year, the clubs will meet again in the final, which will be held on May 25th, at Wembley.
Now, the Red Devils focus on the English Championship and face Sheffield United this Wednesday, at 4pm (BrasÃlia time), at Old Trafford.
