Former Santos, Ariel Holan takes command of São Paulo’s rival in the Libertadores

Ariel Holan, formerSantoswas announced this Monday by Barcelona-EQU, opponents of São Paulo in the Copa Libertadores. The coach makes his debut for the Ecuadorian team this Thursday, against Tricolor Paulista, in Guayaquil, in the third round of the competition.

The Argentine coach was hired after the departure of Diego López, fired by Barcelona-EQU last Friday. Holan signed a one-year contract with the Ecuador team.

Ariel Holan has a brief stint in Brazilian football. In 2021, between the months of February and April, the Argentine coached Santos, but was fired after 13 games in charge. During the period, there were four wins, four draws and five defeats.

After Santos, Holan went to León-MEX and Universidad Católica-CHI – his last job. For the Chilean club, the coach was eliminated by São Paulo in the round of 16 of the Copa Sudamericana, after losing both games by 4-2 and 4-1.

Holan also has experience at Banfield-ARG, Defensa y Justicia-ARG, Independiente-ARG and Universidad Católica-CHI – first experience.

The duel between Barcel0na-EQU and São Paulo, therefore, has two new coaches, as Argentine Luis Zubeldía makes his debut for Tricolor in this match. The ball starts at 9pm (Brasília time).
