Federation releases VAR audios in the classic between Barcelona and Real Madrid

This Monday, the Royal Spanish Football Federation released the VAR audio during Real Madrid’s 3-2 victory over Barcelona in the Spanish Championship. The match was marked by controversy in the move in which the referee considered that the ball did not completely cross the goal line in Lamine Yamal’s shot.

The confusion occurred in the 28th minute of the first half, when the match was tied at 1-1. After a corner kick, Lamine Yamal deflected the ball into the first half, and the Real Madrid goalkeeper cleared the ball practically over the line.

Barcelona players complained that the ball had already gone in by the time Lunin made the save, and VAR took action to review the play.

First, you can hear the referee confirming to the Barcelona players that they do not have goal-line technology, which would have shown the referee whether or not the ball went in via the clock.

“Lunin’s body is covering the image. Wait a second, we’re looking for evidence,” says the video referee.

“We are in no rush, it is a very important decision, no rush”, replied the field judge.

Afterwards, the VAR analyzed all the available images and stated that none of them clearly showed whether the ball went in completely or not, which is why it recommended that the referee follow the on-field decision not to score a goal.

“We will continue with the corner. We have no evidence that the ball went in, so continue with the corner,” concluded the VAR.

Joan Laporta, president of Barcelona, criticized the video referee’s performance in the match, mainly due to this move, and said that he does not rule out asking for the match to be canceled because of the mistakes against his team.
