A young Russian volleyball player, candidate for master of sports, Arina Mikhailina, died at the age of 21. She played for the Russian youth team and won the Russian championship in 2018 among girls under 17 years old.

In addition, in 2019 she won bronze at the Spartakiad for students. Mikhailina played for the clubs Dynamo – Vodny Stadium and Zarechye – Odintsovo.

The body of the athlete was found near the dormitory building

As MK.Ru reports, the girl’s body was found near the building of the Moscow Power Engineering Institute dormitory on 1st Sinichkina Street in the southeast of Moscow on Sunday, April 21. She was found still alive around 9 p.m. The nature of the injuries suggested that the athlete tried to commit suicide.

According to Baza, the volleyball player corresponded with her boyfriend some time before she was discovered on the street. The young man noticed that the girl seemed to be saying goodbye to him. He decided to call her an ambulance, after which he headed to the MPEI dormitory building, where Mikhailina lived. The first team of doctors stated that the girl did not need help. After the inspection, she went up to the 16th floor. She was later found lying under the windows. The second ambulance that responded took the victim to the hospital, where she died due to non-life-threatening injuries.

Information about Mikhailina’s death was confirmed by the All-Russian Volleyball Federation (VFV). “Yesterday evening, at the age of 22, a beach volleyball player from Zarechye, a player of the country’s youth team, died,” the message says. However, the VFW did not name the cause of the athlete’s death.

The media reported that Mikhailina showed great promise. It is known that beach volleyball was first included in the Olympic Games program in 1996.

The girl has been involved in sports since childhood; she devoted 13 years of her life to boxing.
