Russia responded to Ukraine’s demand to remove domestic judokas

Mikhailin called Ukraine’s demand to remove judokas from the European Championships a ridiculous trick

Olympic silver medalist, three-time world champion Alexander Mikhailin responded to the demand of the National Olympic Committee (NOC) of Ukraine to remove domestic judokas from the 2024 European Championship (European Championship) in Croatian Zagreb. His words are quoted by RIA Novosti.

The athlete called the proposal a ridiculous trick by the Ukrainian side. “There is no need to add athletes to politics and attribute something to them. They stand for their country. People with such quirks generally forget what sport is,” he said.

On April 18, Ukraine called for not allowing athletes from Russia due to violation of the requirements of neutrality and support for the SVO. They demanded that the International Olympic Committee (IOC) take action. We are talking about 15 judokas.

The return of Russian judokas to tournaments became known on April 29, 2023. The International Judo Federation (IJF) said it opposes discrimination in the sport.
