Italy guaranteed to finish with one of the top two positions in the ‘Uefa 2024 coefficient’ and, therefore, will have five representatives next season in the Champions League, one more than in the current one.
The mathematical confirmation was given after the return games of the quarter-finals of the Europa League and the Conference League, this Thursday.
Italy have a coefficient of 19,428 points after Roma and Atalanta qualified for the Europa League semi-finals, and Fiorentina for the same stage of the Conference.
The Italians surpass Germany in the rankings (17,928 points, with three clubs still in contention for European competitions), while England is third (17,375 points).
The English, after the eliminations in the European tournaments of Liverpool and West Ham this Thursday, have only one club in the semi-finals counting all continental tournaments: Aston Villa in the Conference League.
The Champions League will change its format next season, with 36 teams taking part in the group stage, instead of the 32 that have participated in recent seasons.
