Barcelona, currently led by Xavi, has been recording eliminations in different competitions during the 2023/24 season. With the defeat in the Champions League against Paris Saint-Germain this Tuesday, the Spanish club amended the third.
The first of these occurred on January 14th of this year, when the team was runner-up in the Spanish Super Cup. Despite having beaten Osasuna in the semis, Real Madrid scored a 4-1 defeat against their rivals and took the cup.
Barcelona in the 23/24 season:
• In 2nd place in LaLiga and 8 points behind leaders Real Madrid.
• Lost the Spanish Super Cup final to Real Madrid.
• Eliminated in the quarterfinals of the Copa del Rey to Athletic Bilbao.
• Eliminated in the quarterfinals of the Champions League to PSG.

Just ten days later, Xavi’s team fell to Athletic Bilbao, again with a rout, this time in a single game in the quarterfinals of the Copa del Rey. On that occasion, they said goodbye to the competition after conceding 4-2.
Finally, despite having beaten Paris Saint-Germain 3-2, away from home, in the first leg of the Champions League quarterfinals, the team turned around at the Lluís Companys Olympic Stadium, in Catalonia, and said goodbye for another championship.
Thus, the only competition left for Barcelona is La Liga, in which the team is second with 70 points, eight less than rival Real Madrid.
The next match for Espanyol will be against the leaders. The ball rolls this Sunday, at 4 pm (Brasília time), for the 32nd round.
