Luis Enrique on PSG’s Champions League comeback: “Totally convinced that we can do it”

This Monday, the eve of the second leg of the quarter-finals of the Champions League between Paris Saint-Germain and Barcelona, Luis Enrique, coach of the French club, analyzed the first game and revealed what he expects from his team for the second and decisive confrontation.

“The return game is a little different, because we didn’t have a game at the weekend. So we had the time we needed to analyze and the time necessary to try to improve our performance. My first thought after the game was that it was a very well played and both teams played well. I don’t think the result reflects exactly what we deserved, we deserved at least a draw and we could have scored more goals, but the result is 3-2 for them and that means we have to play better tomorrow. We don’t like to leave things to chance and you can imagine how this will play out tomorrow. We are completely convinced that we can do this,” said the coach.

Last Wednesday’s defeat ended the French club’s 27-game unbeaten streak. Luis Enrique also spoke about this.

“After not losing in 27 games, it was going to happen at some point. It was when we least wanted it and least expected it. We have to get up, prepare again and improve our performance. I don’t think we need to exaggerate when we go 27 games without losing. We have to accept the defeat against Barcelona and now we are preparing to compete tomorrow. I have no doubt that we will compete and make our fans happy,” he declared.

The Spanish coach talked about the recovery after the defeat and the mental preparation for the clash.

“The next two days after the first game were difficult. It was difficult to recover mentally and physically. But hopefully, the good thing about professional football is that there’s a next game coming up. Now we’re going to play them again. We’re fine. mentally. We have clear ideas of what we need to do. I think we are in good shape”, said Luis Enrique.

The commander also spoke about the players’ motivation to achieve a comeback and qualify for the semi-finals.

“Based on what I saw in training this week, I have to say that we are full of desire to turn the game around. It’s not about one player or individuality. All the players are here to represent PSG and our fans. With all the support who we received at Parque dos Príncipes during the game, we want to return to Paris with a victory. I think PSG have never reversed a tie after losing in the first leg, this is our chance”, he said.

The match between Barcelona and PSG takes place this Tuesday, at 4pm (Brasília time), in Spain.
