Villarreal scores in stoppage time and ties with Athletic Bilbao for Espanyol

This Sunday, Athletic Bilbao and Villarreal faced each other at the San Mamés Stadium, in the 31st round of the Spanish Championship. With goals from Sancet, for the home team, and Parejo, for the visitors, the game ended in a 1-1 draw.

With the draw, Athletic Bilbao reached 57 points and occupies fifth place. Villarreal has 39 points and appears momentarily in ninth place.

Athletico Bilbao’s next match will be next Friday, at 4pm (Brasília time), against Granada, in the Spanish Championship. Villarreal, in turn, will face Almería on Sunday, at 11:15 am, in the same tournament.

After the first half ended 0-0, Villarreal had a problem in the opening minute of the second half. Santi Comesaña arrived late and hit Prados with a stomp. Close to the play, the referee presented the second yellow card to the midfielder, who ended up being sent off.

Taking advantage of the numerical advantage, Bilbao opened the scoring in the 20th minute. Villalibre crossed into the area and found Guruzeta, who headed the ball for Sancet to hit the first time into the back of the net.

When the game already seemed to be decided, the referee, with the help of VAR, awarded a penalty for Villarreal in stoppage time, more precisely in the 46th minute. Baena tried to finish, but the ball ended up touching Yuri’s arm. With the kick, Parejo tied the game.
