Mamiashvili called Ukraine’s call not to allow Russian wrestlers to the Olympic Games a disgrace
President of the Russian Wrestling Federation (FSBR) Mikhail Mamiashvili responded to the National Olympic Committee (NOC) of Ukraine, which called for not allowing domestic athletes to participate in the 2024 Olympic Games in Paris. His words are quoted by TASS.
Mamiashvili called the statement of the Ukrainian side a shame and humiliation. “One can only regret this, no matter what conditions life circumstances offer, something human must remain in any case,” he said.
Earlier on April 12, Ukraine called for not allowing wrestlers from Russia and Belarus to participate in the Olympics due to violation of neutrality requirements and support for a special operation. They demanded that the International Olympic Committee (IOC) take action.
Russians and Belarusians will be able to take part in the 2024 Olympics as individual neutral athletes by decision of the IOC. However, athletes who support a special operation in Ukraine, as well as those who have connections with the armed forces or security agencies of Russia and Belarus, will miss the tournament. In addition, there will be no representatives of the two countries’ team sports in Paris.
