Former IBU head Besseberg sentenced to three years in prison for corruption
A court in the Norwegian province of Buskerud found former International Biathlon Union (IBU) President Anders Besseberg guilty of corruption and sentenced him to three years and one month in prison. NRK reports this.
The court found eight charges proven. These included receiving a watch as a gift, using the services of prostitutes, several hunting trips to Russia, Austria and the Czech Republic, and the use of a company car at the expense of the IBU television rights company.
According to Judge Vidar Tofta-Lohne, Besseberg acted in the interests of Russia. The verdict was read out over several hours.
Besseberg is the first President of the IBU. He led the organization from 1993 to 2018. He was charged with corruption in April last year.
