The president of Conmebol, Alejandro Domínguez, sent a message to governments around the world to follow football’s example.

“It’s the magic of football. Today we can set a great example at a time when the world fights and divides. Instead of finding reasons to divide us, football found a reason to unite us, to show that we have more similarities than differences. For the first time in history, in 100 years, a World Cup will be played on three continents”, he emphasized, remembering that the 2030 World Cup will be held in America, Europe and Africa.

In turn, Uruguayan President Luis Lacalle Pou maintained that “it is a moral obligation, not a legal one” for the government to support the 2030 World Cup. “That’s why we are here,” he stated.

The president reportedly asked Infantino to manage FIFA’s approval of Uruguay’s choice as host for the 2029 draw for the tournament calendar.

Lacalle said he appreciated Infantino’s gesture as he understood that not everything should be about money in football. “You will wonder why they gave the organization to Argentina, Uruguay and Paraguay: because not everything is economic. They are like the roots of the family. If there is no root, there are no branches or fruits.”
