Deputy Zhurova predicted Russia’s return to the Olympic Games
Russia will sooner or later fully return to the Olympic Games, State Duma deputy Svetlana Zhurova said in a conversation with Lenta.ru. She recalled that there were different periods in the country’s history, but during the stabilization of the foreign policy situation, Russian athletes always showed themselves with dignity at international competitions.
“Russia, in principle, participated in the Olympic Games much less than other powerful countries. At the beginning of the century, we didn’t normally participate, and until 1952, too. We have not been in the Olympic movement for long, and there have always been some problems. Everything was calm only during the truce, but it did not last long,” the deputy said.
In her opinion, tension in relation to Russia was also present because the country’s athletes always “excited” their opponents and occupied high positions.
“There is still China left. I am convinced that something similar to our story can happen to them. Like us, they try to boycott every game taking place in China,” Zhurova recalled. — As for us, we will still return to the Olympics. The question is when. And will the Olympic Games look the same as they do now?
Earlier, the head of the IOC warned that participants in the Friendship Games, which will be held in September 2024 in Moscow and Yekaterinburg, may have problems with the Olympics.
