Oleg Veretennikov remembered crossing the border with Ukraine without a passport
Former football player of Volgograd “Rotor” and the Russian national team Oleg Veretennikov remembered how in 1992 he crossed the border of Ukraine with Russia without a passport. His words are quoted by Sport24.
The ex-player said that he trained at Dynamo Kiev, but Volgograd residents were actively interested in him. According to Veretennikov, he agreed to the trip to Russia only because he understood that it would be disrupted due to the lack of a passport in his hands. However, the people of Rotor President Vladimir Goryunov solved this problem.
“They somehow got me across the border without a single document. And then, in the same way, my wife. Goryunov actually told her that I had already signed with Rotor. Although at that time I didn’t even plan to do this,” Veretennikov said.
The forward played for Rotor from 1992 to 2000. Together with the team, he twice became the silver medalist of the Russian Championship and was the top scorer of the tournament three times.
