UEFA will not cancel the 1/4 finals of the Champions League, despite the threat of terrorist attacks
The Union of European Football Associations (UEFA) spoke out about the threat of terrorist attacks at Champions League matches. RIA Novosti provides a commentary from the organization’s press service.
“UEFA is aware of suspected terrorist threats in relation to this week’s Champions League matches and is working closely with authorities at the relevant venues,” the statement said. However, despite the threats received, the quarter-final matches will not be cancelled, they will take place as scheduled with appropriate safety measures.
Earlier on April 9 it was reported that ISIS (IS, Islamic State, terrorist organization banned in Russia) allegedly threatened to carry out terrorist attacks at the quarterfinal matches of the Champions League. An image appeared online showing an armed man and the names of the stadiums where the games will be held, accompanied by the caption “kill them all.”
Four matches will be held as part of the Champions League on April 9 and 10. They will be played by Arsenal and Bayern (in London), Real Madrid and Manchester City, Atlético and Borussia (both in Madrid), PSG and Barcelona (in Paris).
