Tampa coach Cooper said Sergachev will not return for the start of the NHL playoffs
Tampa Bay Lightning head coach John Cooper answered a question about the return of Russian Mikhail Sergachev to the start of the National Hockey League (NHL) playoffs. His words are quoted on the league’s website.
Cooper said the defender has a long road to recovery from injury. “It’s great that he’s on the ice. “He’s making progress, but don’t think he can play in the first round of the playoffs, because he won’t,” the coach said.
Sergachev himself said that he would try to return to duty as quickly as possible. The Russian added that due to the complexity of the injury, it is impossible to predict when he will be able to play again.
On April 8, it was reported that Sergachev returned to training two months after the operation. On February 8, the athlete suffered a fracture of his left leg during a meeting with the New York Rangers. Moreover, the defender previously missed 17 matches of the regular season due to a lower body injury.
In total, this season, 25-year-old Sergachev played in 34 matches, in which he scored 19 points (2 goals and 17 assists). The defender has been playing for Tampa since 2017.
