Shamil Tarpishchev in response to Pozdnyakov: calling tennis players foreign agents is stupidity
The President of the Russian Tennis Federation (RFF) Shamil Tarpishchev responded to the head of the Russian Olympic Committee (ROC) Stanislav Pozdnyakov, who called Russian tennis players wishing to compete at the 2024 Olympic Games in Paris a team of foreign agents. His words are quoted by TASS.
Tarpishchev called what was said stupid. He drew attention to the fact that performances abroad are specific to tennis. “The athlete does the work to which he devoted his whole life and never betrayed the country. Tennis players are patriots of our homeland,” said the head of the FTR.
Pozdnyakov criticized Russian tennis players who want to compete at the Olympics on April 5. He called them a team of foreign agents.
Russians and Belarusians were allowed to participate in the Paris Olympics in the tournament as individual neutral athletes. At the same time, athletes who support a special operation in Ukraine, as well as those who have connections with the armed forces or security agencies of Russia and Belarus, will not be allowed to participate in the competition. In addition, representatives of team sports will miss the tournament.
