On Sunday afternoon, the Portuguese Championship gained continuity. For the 28th round, the Porto was defeated by Vitória de Guimarães, 2-1, at the Dragão stadium. An own goal scored by the Brazilian Galeno and one by Jota Silva declared a defeat for the home team, while Galeno himself scored for the home team.
With the result, Porto remained in third place, with the same 58 points as at the start of the round, but suffered the second consecutive defeat in the tournament. On the other hand, Vitória de Guimarães was in fifth place, had 56 points and was at Braga, which has the same score.
The two clubs return to the pitch next Saturday (13), for the 29th round of the Portuguese Championship. Porto hosts Famalicão, at 2pm (Brasília time), at Dragão, while Vitória de Guimarães takes on Farense, at 11:30am, at Afonso Henriques.
The game
It was Vitória de Guimarães who opened the scoring at the Dragão stadium. After a free kick from Tomás Handel, Brazilian Galeno went up alongside the defenders to try to clear it, but ended up sending it against his own goal.
With 18 minutes, Porto almost tied the match. After a cross, the Vitória de Guimarães defense cleared it. In the remainder, Alan Varela decided to take a risk from outside the area, but goalkeeper Bruno Varela went for it and sent it out for a corner.
And in the 32nd minute, Vitória de Guimarães increased the lead in a good move. Thiago Silva passed a beautiful ball to Jota Silva, who left at speed. The number 11 invaded the penalty area and hit the goalkeeper to make the second for the visitors: 2-0.
At the end of the first half, the visiting team once again threatened Porto’s goal. Kaio César made a great move in the penalty area, went past the Brazilian Wendell and finished, but goalkeeper Diogo Costa saved with his feet to avoid the third goal.

And, following the saying, whoever doesn’t do it, gets it. In the 43rd minute, after a through ball, Loader managed to touch Galeno with his knee. The Brazilian invaded the penalty area and shot low, crossed, to make it 2-1 for Porto.
In the 23rd minute of the second half, Porto almost scored an equalizer. Francisco Conceição made a great play on the right side, with the right to the pen, and crossed. Pajuelo appeared inside the penalty area and managed to score the goal, but goalkeeper Varela saved it.
A minute later, Porto saw its life become even more complicated. Pepe was outraged by a move in which the referee gave the ball to Vitória de Guimarães and complained to the referees. The field judge then showed the red card to the defender, who went to the shower early.
The rest of the complementary stage went without any major scares and, as a result, Porto suffered its second consecutive defeat in the Portuguese Championship.
