Athletic secures a place for the Europa League, which will have its final in San Mamés

The Athletic Club, with its victory against RCD Mallorca in the final of the Copa del Reyhas secured a place in the Europa League 2024-2025 whose final will be played on May 21 of next year, precisely, at the San Mamés stadium.
The red and white team, however, is still opting to qualify among the top four of LaLiga EA Sports and thus obtain a ticket for the maximum competition, the Champions League.
In the absence of eight daysAthletic is fifth with 56 points, behind Real Madrid (75), FC Barcelona (67), Girona (65) and Atlético de Madrid (58), and ahead of Real Sociedad (49) and Valencia (44) .
Whatever the final position of the Bilbao team, what they are guaranteed is that they will compete in a European competition for the 32nd season in their history, and they will do so after more than six years of absence.
Their last international match dates back to March 15, 2018 when they lost 1-2 in San Mamés against the Olympique de Marseille in the second leg of the Europa League round of 16 and was eliminated from the competition. Iñaki Williams scored the lions’ last European goal that day.
In total, Athletic accumulates 202 continental matches (93 wins, 69 losses and 40 draws, with 303 goals for and 261 against), of which 28 are from the European Cup and Champions League; 164 in the Fairs Cup, UEFA Cup and Europa League; 6 from the Cup Winners’ Cup, 2 from the Latin Cup and 2 from Intertoto.
