The head of the Russian Wrestling Federation Mamiashvili called on not to label athletes
The President of the Russian Wrestling Federation (FSBR), Mikhail Mamiashvili, made a statement about neutral athletes from Russia. His words are quoted by TASS.
Mamiashvili called on not to label athletes. “We are one country, one team – the team of our leader, head of state. Many want to achieve our uncertainty, internal discord, but they don’t know the Russian soul well – there’s zero chance,” said the head of the federation.
On April 5, the head of the All-Russian Rhythmic Gymnastics Federation, Irina Viner, considered that Russians performing at the Games should not have citizenship of the country. On the same day, the President of the Russian Olympic Committee Stanislav Pozdnyakov called Russian tennis players wishing to compete at the Games a team of foreign agents.
Russians and Belarusians will be able to take part in the 2024 Olympics as individual neutral athletes by decision of the International Olympic Committee. However, athletes who support a special operation in Ukraine, as well as those who have connections with the armed forces or security agencies of Russia and Belarus, will miss the tournament. In addition, there will be no representatives of the two countries’ team sports in Paris.
