This Sunday morning, in the 32nd round of the English Championship, Manchester City visited Crystal Palace at Selhurst Park and won 4-2, coming from behind. The winning goals were scored by De Bruyne (2), Rico Lewis and Haaland, while Jean-Philippe Mateta and Odsonne Édouard scored for the home team.
Thus, with the positive result, the team led by Pep Guardiola surpassed Arsenal, who have 68, and reached the same 70 points as leaders Liverpool. However, both teams still enter the field in this round to defend their positions.
City returns to the pitch next Tuesday, against Real Madrid, in a match valid for the quarter-finals of the Champions League. The ball rolls at 4pm (Brasília time), at the Santiago Bernabéu Stadium. Crystal Palace will play again next Sunday (14), against Liverpool, in the 33rd round of the Premier League. The ball rolls at 10 am (Brasília time), at Anfield.
The goals
Crystal Palace surprised and opened the scoring after just three minutes, through Jean-Philippe Mateta. The number 14 received a great pass from Wharton and beat Ortega with a low shot.
However, City recovered quickly with a spectacular goal from De Bruyne, in the 13th minute. The Belgian cut to the right and sent it into the goalkeeper’s left corner.
The turning point came at the beginning of the second half, after two minutes. Lewis received it inside the area and fired towards the goal. The ball even had a deflection before finding the net.
At 21, Haaland appeared almost inside the small area and sent De Bruyne’s pass into the back of the goal.
At 25, the Belgian midfielder scored his second goal of the game and his team’s fourth. Midfielder Rodri adjusted it and the number 17 hit the goalkeeper’s right corner hard.
Finally, Crystal Palace pulled one back with Odsonne Édouard, at 41. The player caught Jeffrey Schlupp’s cross and finished to the right of the goal.
