Champion wrestler Sadulaev called the exclusion from selection for the 2024 Olympics unexpected
The best Russian wrestler, two-time Olympic champion Abdulrashid Sadulayev commented on his exclusion from the licensed qualifying tournament for the 2024 Games in Paris. His words are quoted by TASS.
The athlete called the decision unexpected and unfair. “I’m not going to give up, I’ll still fight and don’t lose hope that common sense will prevail and the third Olympics is not lost for me yet,” Sadulayev said.
Sadulayev’s inadmissibility became known on April 4. The United World of Wrestling said that the reason was the athlete’s support for a special military operation. The suspension was also influenced by the fact that Sadulayev is a member of the Dynamo sports society.
Russians and Belarusians will be able to take part in the 2024 Olympics as individual neutral athletes by decision of the International Olympic Committee. However, athletes who support a special operation in Ukraine, as well as those who have connections with the armed forces or security agencies of Russia and Belarus, will miss the tournament. In addition, there will be no representatives of the two countries’ team sports in Paris.
