Hockey player Ovechkin scored a double in the NHL and reduced the gap from Gretzky to 43 goals
Russian forward Alexander Ovechkin did not help the Washington Capitals beat the Carolina Hurricanes in the regular season match of the National Hockey League (NHL). Results are available on the league website.

The second goal scored was the 851st of the Russian’s career in the league. Thus, the forward strengthened his position on the list of the best snipers in the NHL and reduced the gap from the leading Canadian Wayne Gretzky to 43 goals.
Gretzky has 894 career goals. Ovechkin moved into second place on the night of December 24, scoring a double in a match against the Winnipeg Jets.
Ovechkin has been playing for the Capitals since 2005. Together with the club, he won the Stanley Cup in 2018.
