“Yes, of course (I would like to face City). Let’s see, first of all I would like to play in the Champions League final with Barça, it would be extraordinary and it doesn’t matter who is in front. But, yes, Manchester City is a extraordinary team and probably now has the greatest chance of being in the final. For Barcelona to appear in the final of the biggest club competition in Europe, they must first overcome the Paris Saint Germainby Kylian Mbapppé, in the quarter-finals, and overthrow the winner of Borussia Dortmund e Atlético de Madrid in the tournament semifinals. Asked about Barça’s next opponent in the competition, Gundogan preached caution, but expressed hope.
“If we manage to play like we did, for example against Napoli at home or even there, we will have a chance in the Champions League. I believe so, yes. But it is clear that PSG has a great team and great players. We will have to control especially the wingers and defend very well to control them, but we will have to do it as a team. If we do it, we will have a chance”, said the German.
“At any moment you can stop being the favorite to win and be left out. I’ve experienced that during my career and it doesn’t matter who the opponent is. Of course we’re happy now and a lot of people didn’t expect us in the quarter-finals, at the start of the season, but there is no reason not to believe that we can be in the semi-finals”, he concluded.
Barcelona returns to the pitch next Wednesday (19), to face Paris Saint-Germain in the first leg of the quarter-finals of the Champions League. The ball rolls, at Parque dos Príncipes, starting at 4pm (Brasília time).
