The English Championship has a new leader, at least for now. This Saturday, Manchester City hosted Brighton and won 2-0 with goals from Sterling and Aguero. The victory leaves City 19 points, one more than Liverpool. However, Liverpool enter the field this Saturday away from home against Chelsea.

Also this Saturday, at home, Arsenal beat the surprising Watford 2-0 in a direct confrontation for the top positions in English. By the same score, Tottenham beat bottom side Huddersfield away from home and also moved up the table.

Manchester City beats modest Brighton

As expected, Manchester City entered the field attacking, trying to win their fourth consecutive victory in the English Championship and, after four minutes, Aguero tried a bicycle kick, but the shot was blocked. However, despite the home team’s superiority, Brighton tried to attack so as not to suffer so much pressure.

After 29 minutes of balanced play, City managed to open the scoring with Sterling. After a quick attack, the English striker received a low cross from Sané and, in the small area, stretched his leg to score the first goal of the game.

Even with the advantage, Guardiola’s team continued attacking and, at 39, Sterling came close to scoring for the second time in the match. The striker invaded the area and finished strongly, but goalkeeper Ryan showed reflexes, avoided the goal and kept the first half score at 1-0.

Manchester City returned to the second half with the same intensity as the first, attacking and looking for more goals. Brighton, however, continued to hold back the strong opponent’s attack and relied on counterattacks to seek a draw.

In the 57th minute, the team’s second goal Citizens almost happened. Inside the area, Aguero tried the shot and stopped at the defense. In the remainder, Spaniard David Silva kicked hard and goalkeeper Ryan again made a great reflex save, avoiding the second goal.

But the Brighton goalkeeper could do nothing in the 20th minute. Aguero started from midfield and dribbled past two markers before connecting with Sterling and finishing without a chance for Ryan. Soon afterwards, the Argentine was replaced by Gabriel Jesus.

With a two-goal lead, Manchester City continued attacking, but with less intensity. Brighton, even far from victory, continued to play defensively and rely on counterattacks. Neither team managed to pose any threat to goals before the end of the match, which ended in a 2-0 victory for City.

Arsenal win head-to-head clash against Watford at home

In a direct confrontation for the top positions in the English Championship, Arsenal hosted Watford and had difficulties, but came out on top. With an own goal by Cathcart in the 36th minute of the second half and by Ozil in the 38th minute, the Gunners they won 2-0.

With the victory, Arsenal reaches 15 points and moves up to fifth place, overtaking Watford, who is in sixth place with 13 points. In the next round, Arsenal visits Fullham next Sunday, while Watford hosts Bournemouth on Saturday trying to win again.

Tottenham beat bottom side Huddersfield with two from Kane

Another team fighting for the top positions, Tottenham counted on its top scorer to beat Huddersfield away from home. Harry Kane scored twice in the first half, the only two goals of the game, and gave Spurs the victory.

With the victory over Huddersfield and Watford’s defeat to Arsenal, Tottenham moves up one place in the English table. The London team reaches 15 points and moves up to fourth place. Huddersfield, on the other hand, remains at the bottom of the competition with just two points.
