Russian athlete Poistogova was deprived of silver at the 2012 Olympic Games for doping
Russian Ekaterina Poistogova was stripped of her silver medal at the 2012 London Olympics due to an anti-doping rule violation. TASS reports this with reference to the press service of the All-Russian Athletics Federation (ARAF).
In addition to the cancellation of her results from July 17, 2012 to October 20, 2014, the athlete was disqualified for two years. The suspension period starts on March 28 this year. Sanctions against Poistogova were applied based on data from the Moscow anti-doping laboratory. Details are not specified.
Poistogova has been representing Turkey since 2021. At the Games in London, she won silver in the 800-meter race as part of the Russian team.
In 2015, ARAF’s membership in the World Athletics Association was suspended due to systematic violations of anti-doping rules by Russians. Domestic athletes could compete in international competitions only after receiving individual permits and in a neutral status.
