Deputy Svishchev: Paris must guarantee the safety of all athletes at the 2024 Olympic Games
The host country of the Olympic Games (OG) must guarantee safety and hospitality to all athletes, regardless of their citizenship, said the head of the State Duma Committee on Physical Culture and Sports, Dmitry Svishchev. So, in a conversation with Lenta.ru, the deputy commented on the words of French President Emmanuel Macron about the attitude towards Russian athletes at the 2024 Olympic Games in Paris.
“The organizing country guarantees all delegations from any country the same treatment: safety, hospitality and other privileges that are created for athletes. Therefore, this is quite self-evident,” said Svishchev.
At the same time, the deputy noted that recently there have been alarming statements from France regarding Russia.
“Either the mayor of Paris declares that he does not want to see our and Belarusian athletes, then Macron declares that he wants to send troops to Ukraine. Therefore, what Macron said today surprises me. Now the main thing is that his words do not diverge from his deeds,” Svishchev concluded.

On March 31, the mayor of Paris, Anne Hidalgo, said that Russian and Belarusian athletes would not be welcome at the Summer Games. The head of the Russian Olympic Committee, Stanislav Pozdnyakov, criticized the International Olympic Committee (IOC) for the lack of response to these statements.
