Olympic figure skating champion Adelina Sotnikova announced her engagement. She posted on Instagram (social network is banned in Russia; owned by Meta, which is recognized as extremist and banned in the Russian Federation).
The 27-year-old athlete became engaged to tennis player representing the Kazakhstan national team, Dmitry Popko. “I said: “Yes,” wrote Sotnikova.
In March 2020, Sotnikova announced her retirement from her sports career. The athlete said that health problems do not allow her to continue performing at a professional level. On October 30, 2022, she announced the birth of her child.
Sotnikova was the first Russian to win Olympic gold in women’s single skating, this happened at the 2014 Games in Sochi. She also has two silver medals at the European Championships.
