This Tuesday, Flamengo drew with Millonarios in their debut in Group E of the Libertadores. The team had the chance to leave Bogotá with three points, but conceded equality to the home team by having one more player.
The goals of the match came in the second half. Flamengo opened the scoring with Pedro, but Millonarios equalized with Ruiz.
In the next round, the Rio club will host Palestino-CHI, on April 10, at Maracanã. The following day, Millonarios travels to face Bolívar-BOL, in La Paz.
The game
Millonarios tried to have possession of the ball at the beginning, but saw Flamengo almost open the score after five minutes. Viña arrived by surprise in the area, received a pass from Bruno Henrique, but sent it wide of the goal.
The home team continued with an offensive stance, but did little to bother the red-black defense. The Cariocas almost scored in the 12th minute, with Bruno Henrique. The striker shot for a good save by goalkeeper Montero.
Millonarios only got scared after 22 minutes. Castro took advantage of the cross and headed close to Rossi’s goal. Then, it was Cataño’s turn to head near the post. The home team began to dominate the match and almost opened the scoring at 37, with another header from Castro. This time, the ball hit the post.
In the final minutes, the Colombians created another chance with Giordana, who stopped in defense of Rossi. Flamengo did little in the offensive sector for the rest of the time and maintained equality until the break.
In the second half, Flamengo improved and managed to stop Millonarios’ advances. The red-and-blacks increased their pace and scored in the 18th minute. Arrascaeta was thrown into the area and was pushed by Vásquez, who was sent off for the penalty. Pedro took the shot with class, with no chance for the goalkeeper.
Millonarios was not intimidated by the setback and the numerical disadvantage on the field. The Colombians went in search of a draw and ended up scoring in the 34th minute. Ruiz received a low cross in the area and sent it into the net.
In the final part, Flamengo was once again offensive. However, Millonarios knew how to hold off the pressure from the Red and Blacks to maintain equality with one less.
