After bouts of covid-19, Liverpool and Leicester clash for the quarterfinals of the English League Cup

THE Liverpool receive the Leicester City, this Wednesday, for the quarter finals of the English League Cup. The match, which will be played in Anfield, at 16:45 (GMT), takes place amidst outbreaks of covid-19 of the two teams.

For the confrontation, the Reds, which come from a tie with the Tottenham for 2 a 2, add up to many embezzlements. Jurgen Klopp’s technical assistant, Pepijn Lijnders, will not be able to choose five athletes who are used to playing regularly.

Defender Virgil van Dijk and defensive midfielder Fabinho are with covid-19, while midfielder Thiago Alcantara had an inconclusive test. Cold, Jordan Henderson missed the last game. Finally, Andy Robertson is suspended.

The competition’s biggest winner, Liverpool have not lifted the trophy since the 2011/12 season. If it wins this edition, the team will surpass the current four-time champion Manchester City, which also adds up to eight cups.

Brendan Rogers’ Leicester, who had a duel with the postponed Everton, will also have embezzlements due to the new coronavirus. They are: defenders Jannik Vestergaard and Filip Benkovic, right-back Vontae Daley-Campbell, midfielder Hamza Choudhury and forwards Ayoze Perez, Ademola Lookman and Kelechi Iheanacho.

In addition to the aforementioned absences, defenders Caglar Soyuncu, Jonny Evans and Wesley Fofana are injured.

Three-time English League Cup champion, Leicester hasn’t won the tournament since the 1999/2000 season. The club, however, was crowned champion of the FA Cup, in an unprecedented way, in 2020/21.
