Xabi Alonso highlights “winning mentality” in Leverkusen’s comeback

Bayer Leverkusen went from defeat to victory in three minutes, managing to turn around a match that seemed lost and beat Hoffenheim 2-1 in the German Championshipwith two goals in the final moments.

“I’ve always been optimistic. At half-time we said that scoring a goal would be important, everything can change in an instant. We have a winning mentality,” said Leverkusen coach Xabi Alonso after the match, a day after confirming that he will remain at the club next season.

Maximilian Beier had put Hoffenheim ahead in the 33rd minute at the BayArena and the visitors held on until the final stretch, which appeared to lead to Leverksen’s first defeat of the season.

But the Bundesliga leader managed to turn things around in three minutes with goals from Robert Andrich (88′) and Patrik Schick (90’+1), which brings the team closer to the title.

With this positive result, there are now 39 games (34 wins and 5 draws) unbeaten for Bayer Leverkusen this season, taking into account all competitions.
