Tchaikovsky: Americans should erect a monument to us for figure skater Malinin
Journalist Anatoly Tchaikovsky appreciated the victory of American figure skater Ilya Malinin at the 2024 World Championships. His words are quoted by Sport Express.
Tchaikovsky recalled that the athlete’s parents are former figure skaters Roman Skornyakov and Tatyana Malinina, who were born in the USSR and represented Russia and Uzbekistan. According to the journalist, the mother, while training her son, passed on to him the best features of the national figure skating school. “Malinin skates like our skater. Yes, the Americans should erect a monument to us for such a boy!” – he called for gratitude.
On March 24, Malinin won the World Championship for the first time in his career. At the tournament, the 19-year-old figure skater, who was born and raised in the United States, set a record for points for a free skate, scoring 227.79 points.
On September 15, 2022, Malinin performed a quad Axel cleanly for the first time in history at the US International Classic tournament. After that, he got into the Guinness Book of Records.
