Alexander Ovechkin was hit in the face for a successful power move in an NHL match
Russian forward of the Washington Capitals Alexander Ovechkin performed a successful power move against the American defenseman of the Toronto Maple Leafs Jake McCabe in a regular season match of the National Hockey League (NHL). This was reported by a Lenta.ru correspondent.
At the beginning of the first period, the Russian met his opponent harshly, but within the rules, after which he found himself on the ice. In one of the following episodes, Toronto’s Canadian defender Mark Giordano stood up for his teammate and hit Ovechkin in the face. He did not succumb to provocation, so only the Canadian was sent off for rudeness.
The meeting took place on the night of Friday, March 29, and ended with a score of 5:1 in favor of Toronto. Ovechkin did not score any points.
This season, the Russian played 69 matches, in which he scored 26 goals and 32 assists. Ovechkin, 38, ranks second on the list of all-time leading scorers in NHL history. He is 46 goals away from the record of leading Canadian Wayne Gretzky.
