Bayern president sees signing Xabi Alonso as “practically impossible”

Bayern Munich’s honorary president, Uli Hoeness, spoke this Thursday about the possibility of Xabi Alonso, currently at Bayer Leverkusen, being the team’s new coach. Following the announcement of Thomas Tuchel’s departure at the end of the season, the coaching position for 2024/25 remains undefined.

“Xabi Alonso will be very difficult, if not practically impossible. I can see him inclined to stay at Leverkusen, especially because he doesn’t want to leave them behind. He is coaching a club that is in the process of becoming German champions. He should a lot to the club, and the club to him”, said Hoeness in an interview with the newspaper BR24.

Xabi Alonso is enjoying a good season at Bayer Leverkusen. The team led by the Spaniard is leader of the German Championship, with 70 points in 26 games, and is undefeated this season. The team is also in the semi-finals of the national cup and the quarter-finals of the Europa League.

Bayern Munich is having a troubled season and has a great chance of ending its run of 11 consecutive Bundesliga titles.

The Bavarian club was also eliminated in the second round of the German Cup, against Saarbrucken. Despite this, the team is in the quarter-finals of the European Champions League and is competing for a place in the semi-final with Arsenal.
