The English club spoke out about the case and stated that it will support the athlete during the investigations.

Since October last year, the Italian midfielder has been serving a ten-month suspension, also due to betting. The player was accused by the Italian Football Federation of betting on Italian football games, including games for the teams he defended.
The last match Tonali played was on October 25, 2023, in Newcastle’s 1-0 defeat to Borussia Dortmund in the Champions League.
The English club paid around R$360 million to Milan to have the player in June last year. Tonali only managed to feature in 12 games before being suspended.
