Wiener: Russians will not forgive neutral athletes who will go to the Olympics
The head of the All-Russian Federation of Rhythmic Gymnastics, Irina Viner, explained the insults towards neutral Olympians from Russia. Her words are quoted by Sport Express.
“If there is no flag, anthem, or Motherland, who are they? And whose flag will be raised? — Wiener wondered. She noted that the names of the Russians who will become Olympic champions will not be in the medal count, and called this a humiliation. The head of the federation believed that the Russians would not forgive neutral athletes who would go to the Olympics.
On March 19, the International Olympic Committee (IOC) approved the flag and anthem under which Russians and Belarusians will be able to perform at the 2024 Games in Paris. They have nothing to do with the countries of the athletes. Neutral athletes will also be prohibited from participating in the opening ceremony.
In December 2023, the IOC allowed Russians and Belarusians to participate in the Olympics in Paris. They will be able to take part in the tournament as individual neutral athletes. At the same time, athletes who support a special operation in Ukraine, as well as those who have connections with the armed forces or security agencies of Russia and Belarus, will not be allowed to participate in the competition. In addition, representatives of team sports will miss the tournament.
