The National Hockey League (NHL) club Calgary Flames posted on Instagram (the social network is prohibited in the Russian Federation; belongs to the Meta corporation, which is recognized as extremist in Russia and is banned) map of Russia and ran into criticism.
In the post, the team talked about the players’ hometowns. The card with Russia and Belarus shows the birthplaces of Andrei Kuzmenko (Yakutsk), Nikita Okhotyuk (Chelyabinsk), Daniil Miromanov (Moscow) and Yegor Sharangovich (Minsk). At the same time, on the map, Russia’s borders include Crimea, but four new territories are missing.
In the comments, subscribers expressed dissatisfaction with the fact that Crimea is listed as part of Russia. Users reproached the team for ignoring their words and demanded that the illustration be changed.
Crimea became part of Russia after a referendum in March 2014, Donetsk People’s Republic (DPR), Lugansk People’s Republic (LPR), Zaporozhye and Kherson regions – in the fall of 2022.
