Valuev said that it is humiliating for Russians to participate in the 2024 Olympic Games
State Duma deputy, former world boxing champion Nikolai Valuev spoke about the participation of Russians in the 2024 Olympic Games. His words are quoted by Sport Express.
Valuev said that it is too humiliating for Russians to go to Paris. “I can only assume that the majority of people will not support those who go. The time is inappropriate from the word “absolutely”,” he noted.
Earlier, Russian Sports Minister Oleg Matytsin supported his compatriots who want to compete at the 2024 Summer Games. In his opinion, the athletes participating in the selection for the tournament are the treasure of the country.
In December 2023, Russians and Belarusians were allowed to participate in the Olympics in Paris as individual neutral athletes. Athletes who support a special operation in Ukraine, as well as those who have ties to the armed forces or security agencies of Russia and Belarus, will not be able to take part in the competition. Representatives of team sports will also miss the tournament.
