Chepalova urged not to condemn Russians for their performance at the 2024 Olympic Games
Three-time Olympic champion in cross-country skiing Yulia Chepalova spoke about the desire of Russians to participate in the 2024 Games in Paris. Her words are quoted by TASS.
“It’s worth going, but I don’t understand why they put a spoke in the wheels and confuse sports and politics. The athletes need to be left alone – let them all participate, I can’t imagine international sport without Russia,” she said. In her opinion, in Russia, with rare exceptions, everyone will support the athletes.
Chepalova urged not to judge the Russians for their performance at the Olympics. “Maybe it will be difficult for them, but I think that this topic is exaggerated, and by international organizations, because the athletes themselves have always treated each other normally,” she concluded.
On March 1, Russian Sports Minister Oleg Matytsin stood up for representatives of the country who want to compete at the 2024 Summer Games. In his opinion, the athletes participating in the selection for the tournament are the treasure of the country.
In December 2023, the International Olympic Committee admitted Russians and Belarusians to the Olympics in Paris as individual neutral athletes. At the same time, athletes who support a special operation in Ukraine, as well as those who have connections with the armed forces or security agencies of Russia and Belarus, will not be allowed to participate in the competition. In addition, representatives of team sports will miss the tournament.
