Medvedev criticized the refereeing after SKA’s elimination from the Gagarin Cup
Chairman of the Board of Directors of St. Petersburg SKA Alexander Medvedev criticized the refereeing after the team was eliminated from the Gagarin Cup. His words are quoted on the club’s Telegram channel.
Medvedev drew attention to several episodes in the matches of the second round of the Kontinental Hockey League (KHL) playoffs with the Ekaterinburg Avtomobilist, which, in his opinion, were interpreted in favor of the opponent. He demanded an answer from the judges, noting that he had not encountered such discrimination.
On March 25, SKA was eliminated from the Gagarin Cup, losing to Avtomobilist in the fifth match of the series with a score of 4:5. Thus, the series ended with a score of 4-1 in favor of the Ekaterinburg team.
For the first time in ten years, SKA failed to reach the semi-finals of the Gagarin Cup. Under the leadership of Roman Rotenberg, the team did not reach the finals of the tournament in all three seasons: before that, the club lost twice to CSKA Moscow in the Western Conference finals.
