Russian tennis player beat the first racket of the world at a tournament in the USA

Tennis player Alexandrova defeated world number one Schwiatek at a tournament in the USA

Russian tennis player Ekaterina Alexandrova defeated the world’s first racket, Poland’s Iga Szwiatek, in the fourth round of the WTA 1000 tournament in Miami (USA). The results are available on the organizers’ website.

The meeting ended with the Russians winning in two sets with a score of 6:4, 6:2. The athletes spent one hour and 24 minutes on the court. In the quarterfinals, Alexandrova will meet American Jessica Pegula.

After the victory, Alexandrova said that she was determined to show her best tennis and fight for every point from the very beginning to the end of the match. “I knew it would be very difficult,” she added.

The prize fund for the WTA 1000 tournament in Miami exceeds $8.7 million. The final will take place on March 30.

Alexandrova is the winner of five WTA tournaments, four of which are in singles. She also has the Billy Gene King Cup to her name.

In 2023, Szwiatek was named the highest paid female athlete. The world number one earned $23.9 million before taxes and agency fees.
