Ilgar Mamedov said that the participation of Russians in the 2024 Olympics will divide society
Two-time Olympic champion and President of the Russian Fencing Federation (RFF) Ilgar Mamedov named the negative consequences of the participation of the country’s representatives in the 2024 Olympic Games. His words are quoted by TASS.
“This will be a division of society, this cannot be allowed. The question is how much do you love yourself or how much do you love your country? Let everyone ask themselves this question,” Mamedov said.
According to the head of the FRF, he does not understand the Russians who want to compete at the Olympic Games, but do not have a 99 percent chance of winning. “To go and achieve nothing there, to go for a walk around Paris with all its inconveniences,” Mamedov noted.
Last December, the IOC allowed Russians to participate in the Games in Paris as individual neutral athletes. The organization added that they will not force Russians who want to compete at the 2024 Olympics to condemn the SVO. At the same time, athletes who support a special operation in Ukraine, or who have connections with the armed forces or security agencies of Russia and Belarus will not be allowed to participate in the 2024 Games. In addition, representatives of team sports will miss the tournament.
