Aston Martin driver Alonso may have caused Russell’s accident
Spanish Aston Martin driver Fernando Alonso has been investigated for his actions before the accident with British Mercedes driver George Russell at the Australian Grand Prix, which was the third round of Formula 1. This was reported on the website of the International Automobile Federation (FIA).
On the last lap of the race, which took place in Melbourne at the Albert Park circuit, Russell lost control and crashed into a bump stop. According to preliminary data, the accident could have been caused by Alonso’s early braking.
In an interview with Sky Sports, the Spaniard said he denies any accusations against him. He stressed that he did not see what was happening behind him because he had problems with the battery. The athlete expressed hope that Russell was okay.
The winner of the Australian Grand Prix was the Spanish Ferrari driver Carlos Sainz Jr. In second place was Sainz’s teammate, Monegasque Charles Leclerc. Third place went to Briton Lando Norris from McLaren. Alonso finished sixth and Russell retired.
