This Saturday, the Canadian team defeated Trinidad and Tobago 2-0, at the Toyota Stadium, in Texas, USA, and secured their place in the Copa América. The team will be part of group A of the competition, which includes Argentina, Peru and Chile.
Cyle Larin and Jacob Shaffelburg scored Canada’s goals. The first was scored 16 minutes into the second half, with a shot from Larin. Only in the 46th minute of the second half did the Canadians expand with Shaffelburg, who received the ball alone inside the area and secured the Canadian classification.
With its place in the Copa América secured, Canada will participate in the tournament for the first time in its history.

The North American team debuts in the competition against Argentina, the current champion, on June 20th, at 9pm (Brasília time). The second game is against Peru on the 25th, at 7pm. In the last round of the group stage, Canada will face Chile on the 29th, at 9 pm.
Group B, from Brazil, still has one place open. Costa Rica and Honduras define the last classified.
Six CONCACAF teams will compete in the next edition of the Copa América. USA, Mexico, Panama and Jamaica won their places through the League of Nations. The last two are defined in the repechage.
The competition, based in the USA, will be played between June 20th and July 14th.
