Sem Messi, Argentina wins friendly against the United States against El Salvador

Current world champion, Argentina started the year 2024 on the right foot, after beating the El Salvador team this Friday, 3-0, at Lincoln Financial Field, in the United States. The winning goals were scored by Romero, Enzo Fernández and Lo Celso.

Lionel Scaloni did not have star Lionel Messi for the game. The Inter Miami striker suffered an injury to his right leg and had to be removed from the national team’s squad list.

With the defeat, El Salvador reached its 16th consecutive game without winning. The team’s last victory was against Granada, in June 2022.

The Argentines return to the field next Wednesday for the last Data Fifa friendly, against Chile. The El Salvador team faces Honduras in its next match, on Tuesday.

Argentina opened the scoring 15 minutes into the first half. Di María took a corner with precision to the head of Romero, who tested it to score El Salvador’s goal.

Abusing their superiority, the Argentine team increased the score in the final stretch of the first stage, in the 42nd minute. Enzo Fernández took advantage of a rebound in the area and just pushed it in to score the Argentines’ second goal.

Argentina scored the third goal at the beginning of the second half, after six minutes. After a good exchange of passes, Lo Celso finished with his left foot into the corner to beat the opposing goalkeeper.
